Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot...

In honor of the day and of the elections coming up, V for Vendetta deserves a re-watching. In this great movie, the protagonist V, who fancies himself a modern-day Guy Fawkes, gives some insight into our modern state of politics ... and blows shit up.
I'm kinda torn with the whole Guy Fawkes thing... I mean he DID try & blow up the Government which was OK in my book... but he did (as far as I know) want to do it to bring about a Catholic Theocracy which is not OK [grin].
ReplyDeleteI *really* must get around to reading 'The Gunpowder Plot' by Antonia Fraser at some point. Maybe it could be my Christmas reading [muses].
Agree on V for Vendetta. Great film and *so* timely.
I will be setting off a few rockets later in memory of Guy and my fellow Catholic plotters.. May they live long in memory.
I'm with you on Guy Fawkes. I really only mention him because it is Nov. 5 and he's very relevant to the movie.
ReplyDeleteBTW, welcome back! Hope you had a nice holiday.
That movie made blowing stuff up seem so pretty.
ReplyDeleteCounting down the days until the return of sanity to our government.

ReplyDeleteHow high can you count?
dbackdad asked: BTW, welcome back! Hope you had a nice holiday.
ReplyDeleteThanks for asking. It was OK, except I was ill for about half of it - which is bloody typical! Managed to visit a few of my fave places & wasn't at work for a whole week which is a treat....
Let off some rather disapointing rockets on the 5th (tradition & all that). Must make MUCH more effort next year...
