War on Easter

I'm not making this up:

John Gibson Hypes A ‘War on Easter’, Announces Easter Bunny Under Attack

So far, FOX News is the only place where I've heard of this nonexistent controversy, but knowing how many of my moron acquaintences like believing whatever they see there, I'm sure I'll be getting 'War on Easter' chain e-mails soon. I love how some members of such a pampered majority will look for every opportunity to hoist themselves up on to the cross and cry how they are being persecuted.

Stephen Colbert hilariously lampoons FOX and Hannity who choose to heap even more crap on this controversey:

Colbert: There is a War on Easter

In other news, godless liberals are declaring war on St. Patrick's Day, rebranding it Green Beer Day. -- OK, I made that last one up, but you know that it won't be long before FOX declares the 'War on St. Patrick's Day'.

You know what is so weird about this? I thought that Christians weren't supposed to even like the Easter Bunny. I'm serious, I had a lady give me a tape that was about why Christians shouldn't celebrate Easter or Halloween because they were pagan holidays with pagan rituals--like hunting Easter Eggs. Eggs are are a symbol of fertility in pagan culture.

I refused the tape and told her my kids like candy and dressing up in Halloween costumes and we like hunting Easter Eggs so go sell crazy somewhere else.

Very good point Sadie. I wanted to try and make sure that I was not painting this as a broad Christian criticism. Because I don't think most Christians are buying it. It seems like it's just FOX trying to create a controversy.

I don't believe that the Easter Bunny or even eggs have any religious significance and so nobody should be offended whether they are tied directly to Easter or just a spring festival.

"...go sell crazy somewhere else" -- he-he. I love that quote.

'Christian' festivals like Easter were originally pagan festivals. Christians co-opted them so that they could insinuate themselves into pagan culture. It's actually a very clever strategy...

Aww c'mon, admit it, we've ALL wanted to crucify that damned little Bunny. You know how he is! He tells your dad in advance where all the eggs are hid so he and your kid sister can always win the hunt. Then he convinces your mom it is cute to take a gazillion pictures of you in a faggy little Buster Brown suit so you will be humilortalized for life!

Funny he never says a word about the fact that someone killed his pal Porky so he coulb be served on Easter sunday.

One of these easters I am gonna serve RABBIT!

Yeah, I guess. Excpet now they try to make people feel guilty for not incorprating more Jesus into their celebrations--it's like their undoing the confusion they created by trying to merge the two cultures like that.
Lame!

Me too! Hey! Whatever happend to that chick that was in that movie? She was kinda funny...
What's her name? She starred with Paul Riser in that Mad About You show? Helen Hunt! Thank you. It came to me.

Christians shouldn't be putting up trees in their houses and drinking mulled wine and singing carols while the yule log burns either... Those were coopted from Pagan traditions too. What is wrong with people? The sad thing is... the masses are probably dumb enough to buy it.

And seriously (I thought of this as I was making my coffee) where is this "doom and gloom" push from fanatical religious people coming from anyway? I mean, seriously? What's wrong with a little joy and happiness and FUN in religion? It's like they want to turn it back into the dark ages or something...

Hey, nothing says peace and love like wearing a cross around one's neck.

It's like a comedian once said (I think it was the late, great Bill Hicks) that wearing a cross to honor Jesus is like wearing a gun necklace to honor JFK. Showing it off to the Kennedy clan, "Just thinkin' of John. Just thinkin' of John."
