Honestly, I was sick of the NRA a long time ago.  But, the last year has taken my hatred of them to a whole new level.  Why such a small minority holds such a large sway on our politicians is ridiculous.  And to try to disguise their idiocy under the banner of "freedom" doesn't wash with me.  Admit it -- you love guns, you feel inadequate without them, you are afraid of people different than you and you couldn't really give a shit about the other parts of the Bill of Rights.

I think the American relationship with guns amazes the whole world. It certainly amazes the shit out of me!

As ever, you and I are on the same page. My feedreader (new from a month or two abo) seems not to recognize Blogger's feeds, so I find I"m behind on my reading. So I'm catching up (no factor, since you and I are connected on FB and I see your Tumblr feed. But still.)

This seems to have blown over now, but we've had about three 9/11s worth of gun deaths since Sandy Hook and the pro-gun forces have kept anything from being done. It's disgusting--like so much of our prevailing political scene.

If I would only blog more often, it might be worth your trip over here! I've just been a blog lurker for about the last year, not commenting much or posting on my own. Not sure what my deal is. I've been reading books and watching movies as much as I ever have, but can very seem to sit down long enough to review them. I did see your Man of Steel review. We watched it this last weekend as well. Much like your review, there were elements I liked and elements I did not.

I find my blog is quieter and quieter, but it goes in spurts. In the early years, there were lots of us in a little clique reading each other's stuff and writing daily. But many of my earlier reads are gone, and I think FaceBook kind of takes the place, at least for basic communication with others (though not for the longer-form expression of thoughts).

With the music blog, I found eventually that I had said most of what I had in me to say. That's maybe not the case with this blog, but after almost 1000 posts I do find I'm repeating myself a bit. And if I'm not really immersed in issues of the present day, then I have less and less to say about those issues.

Having said that, I feel no great urge to pull the plug. It's still a pleasure to sit down and hammer out a thought, which is pretty much all I ever really wanted to do anyway. It began as a daily diary (before getting morphed into a public vehicle) and maybe it'll revert back to that. We'll see.

(I'm still planning to get to PHX one of these days and make you buy me a Diet Coke!)

Same here (about pulling the plug). I know I've been in a rut with not writing, but I have a stable of half-baked posts sitting around waiting for me to finish them.

And count on that Diet Coke!

It'd be pretty cool if we could meet up for a round, or two, of diet cokes!

Hear, hear! You're a bit further away (and will have to ply us with Coke Light--a *travesty!* ;-) but it'd be a treat!

No, we have Diet Coke... and Coke Zero too.......... and back by popular demand Vanilla Coke!

My mind slipped there. I'm currently in Cologne, and I've been going to The English Shoppe here for years in order to circumvent the German's Coke Light for... DIET COKE. Shame on me for not remembering! ;-)

Not that it's particularly important - but I thought that was a labeling thing. Whenever I've been on the European mainland I drink Coke Lite because I thought it *was* Diet Coke by another name. I don't remember it tasting that different.........

Well, then you're a couple strands of DNA shy of an *afficianado*! ;-)

There's a subtly different taste between all the varieties--Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Free, DC, Coke Light, Coke Zero--and I must admit that too-strong an endorsement of any one of them over the others is probably arbitrary and a mite silly.

But I drank one of them exclusively for so long--and in such quantities--that I became intimately familiar with the tiniest details of its taste. And my preferences rather locked into those tiny little details. So yes, I'm rather particular! Since my surgery I've been drinking Crystal Light (to avoid the carbonation of DC), and have shifted my fanatical alliance to that now. I still have a DC every couple of days, but it ain't the same!
