Property Seizure

In a decision that just further illustrates the scary direction we are taking in this country, the Supreme Court ruled that "local governments may seize people's homes and businesses -- even against their will -- for private economic development." We are becoming a place where corporations and well-placed citizens hold all the cards.

"Fascism should rightly be called Corporatism
as it is a merge of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

George Orwell is becoming more prophetic every day.

Yeah,

That was a weird decision. Funny. The liberals on the court voted in favor of it.

Yeah, it was really bizarre. Your normal big business conservatives: Thomas, Scalia, etc. were dissenters.

It's just one of those bad decisions that goes beyond politics. Hopefully, companies that try to push through with imminent domain will see the publicity nightmare of doing so.

Here's a great article that I had read in my Mother Jones a few months ago that goes into some specific stories of imminent domain: The condemned: in Ohio, and across the country, homeowners are battling cities and developers conspiring to seize their property

This is really not the disaster it seems. What the court said was that the states have the right to regulate the use and conditions of eminant domain. About half the states retrict eminant domain by law to public works, and my state (IN) is pushing through legislation to do just that. I'm sure most others will follow suit.

Incidentally, really like your blog
