Oscars

Just saw Brokeback Mountain in the nick of time before the Oscars. Loved it. I thought Ledger's performance was fantastic in it's subtelty.

I didn't get to see everything but did get to see 3 of the nominated best pictures (Crash, Brokeback, and Munich). Crash was my favorite of the 3 ... and my favorite of the year, period.

I'll write more about Brokeback and the Oscars later. Also, see Sadie's site, Sadico Junction, as I'm sure she's watching and will have some good feedback. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jewish Atheist, Great White Bear, Laura at Sarchasm, and Cyberkitten giving their take also.

Actually, I've got a troll on my hands right now, and I promised Sadie a Vanity Fair analysis. So I dunno if I'll do an Oscar post. I liked Brokeback, but I didn't think it was the best. film. ever. I found it kind of boring (because it was a romantic drama - and I usually find those boring). If I wanted to see stock footage of the Wyoming mountains, I'd watch the Nature Channel. The acting was good, but not great. Crash was far superior. I am dissapointed that Philip Seymour Hoffman didn't bark even once though during his speech.

I did a little review but overall there wasn't a whole lot to talk about. For one, I mentioned being out of the loop as far as movies go because we have this little Doodle Bob and don't get out much.
I saw Crash and I enjoyed it but I didn't think it was Oscar worthy AT ALL. A movie has to have all the elements for me and while the acting was good and the story was worth telling--it was missing the luster of a good director. So I'm glad Ang Lee won the direction award and Crash just got the Best Picture and screenplay.

Thanks for the plug... but I didn't watch the Oscars - and have only seen 'Munich' and 'Syriana', oh and of course the marvelous 'Wallace & Gromit'...

Laura,
Agreed on Brokeback. I was definitely glad that Crash won over it. It was good but not the best. I thought both Syrianna and Munich were better than it.

Sadie,
I was surprised that Lee hadn't won before. I had thought he had won for Sense and Sensibility or something ... so I was surprised when they said it was his first win.

CK,
Wallace and Gromit is definitely going to be a rental for us.

It's quite superb and certainly deserved the Oscar. I haven't laughed that much for a while - and I'm pretty sure the woman behind me had a heart attack at one point. It certainly sounded that way! You may need a translator though. It's rather unforgivingly British - indeed pure Northern....

CK,
Don't worry about that. You're talking to someone whose fave films are Trainspotting, Snatch, Lock Stock, etc. and who was raised on Monty Python. I have more trouble understanding people in my own country (in many ways ... he-he).

I was happy that Crash won.

Although I wish Ledger was given best actor.
