Rosa Parks was indeed a very strong woman and a good role model for all people. I do, however, think it odd that in many history classes her refusal to give up her seat is posed as simply a chance thing that happened one day because she was tired. When, in fact, she was part of a purposeful plan to get the civil rights movement rolling. I think that serves to take away her power in a way. Some black woman couldn't have helped premeditate something that large and significant... leave it up to chance. I hate when history is revised like that.
Yes, our history classes are notorious for over-simplifying everything: the wall came down in Germany because of Ronald Reagan; the Civil War was only about slavery; etc. The truth is much more nuanced than they would have us believe.
