Quote of the Day

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." -- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

Love the Bush picture..... [snigger]

Yeah, I remember reading that quote before. Scary huh? It's even easier now that we have conglomerated media outlets and a generation of citizens socialized to not care about "boring" politics.

CK,
I almost feel bad for putting that picture of Bush there ...... almost. :-)

Wow. That's strinkingly similar.

Have you heard this song by Pink?

Dear Mr. President
Come take a walk with me
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly

What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep
What do you feel when you look in the mirror
Are you proud

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye
How do you walk with your head held high
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why

Dear Mr. President
Were you a lonely boy
Are you a lonely boy
Are you a lonely boy
How can you say
No child is left behind
We're not dumb and we're not blind
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pay the road to hell

What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye
How do you walk with your head held high
Can you even look me in the eye

Let me tell you bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh

How do you sleep at night
How do you walk with your head held high
Dear Mr. President
You'd never take a walk with me
Would you

She did this song with the Indigo Girls and it's done very well with acoustic guitar. I think you would really enjoy it. I did.

Sadie,
Wow. I hadn't heard that song. Very pointed lyrics. I didn't realize that Pink ever got that political. But maybe that's the point. It's not political ... it's human. It's not about whether someone is an R or a D, it's about whether people are suffering, whether they are being descriminated against, etc.

Thanks for posting the lyrics.

My dad bought the cd and we were listening to some of it in the car (some songs have VERY nasty lyrics) and when my dad read me the title of the song, I was expecting it to be very "in your face" and edgy. I was pleasently surprised that the song was so mellow and heartfelt.
I have newfound respect for her as an artist.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.
:)

Cy--
I'll take that as a compliment from you, cyberkitten.

I don't ever want to be 'predictable'.

I AM NOT DEAD is such a great album. As much as I like "Dear Mr. President",and I do, it might be my least favorite song on the album. I just love the song written and sung by her Dad, "I Have Seen The Rain", about Viet Nam. "The One that got Away" is this great bluesy number. There are so many different styles on this album, and she pulls them off wo well. Never much liked her before, but this album is getting almost constant play on both my iTunes list, and my daughters.

And you guys though I was just an old hippie geezer. Hah!

GWB--
That's awesome! The second track on the album--I forget the title and my parents burned it for me so I don't have the track list--is my favorite song so far. I think it's called "Who Knew?"

I also like "Nobody Knows"
That song she sings with her dad was so touching.

You're welcome, Bridge
:)
