Further proof that James Dobson is not only a moron but a dangerous moron:
Helping Boys Become Men, and Girls Become Women
It would be funny if he weren't serious. It's time to tell it like it is ... anyone who follows the beliefs and teachings of this man are completely disconnected from reality. Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, has commentaries carried on about 3500 radio stations. It's scary to think how many people listen to him. Other organizations like the Family Research Council are just as bad, pushing a radical Christian right-wing agenda.

Cuz we all know the best way to deal with teenage identity crises is to throw the kid in the looney bin and cram Christ down his/her throat.
Gender roles are what society defines them to be - and these nuts trying to hang on to antiquated definitions just need to go.
Great Blog! James Dobson is a nutcase...but then again after watching Mississippi Burning, I realize that little has changed, these people have just moved on to another issue...
Jessica
Hmm. that's an interesting way to put it jessica. But now that I think about it, it's sorta true aint it?
yeah, the fightin' fundies have a religious philosophy kinda like bobby knight's coaching philosophy. You've always got to have a whippin boy!
I have blogged so much about Dobson this year... he may be the only man in America more dangerous than the W hisself!
Wow, there's no load of unsubstantiated bias in this group or anything.
No one said anything about throwing anybody in a looneybin. I work in a psychiatric inpatient facility as a therapist and that is most definitely not a recomendation for this kind of thing.
As for a whiping boy, it's pretty obvious that there's a certain "nutcase"/"whipping boy" mentality here.
Just because someone holds a strictly conservative viewpoint doesn't make them a "nutcase" anymore than someone holding a strictly liberal viewpoint would be. Even if that were true (that anyone with a strictly conservative viewpoint was a "nutcase") than we wouldn't be able to build enough "looney bins" in the world to hold all of them. There would be just as many people in the "looney bins" as there would be out.
An apologist for James Dobson and for quack psychology ... congrats JC. I'm not sure even what point you are trying to make. This is not a liberal/conservative policy issue as you are making it out to be. It's a fringe religious right issue. Are you saying that you agree with his viewpoint? I know plenty of conservatives and Christians that don't.
As for being unsubstantiated, the people that generally comment on this blog are among the most thoughtful, intelligent people I've read. They don't have opinions that are along "party" lines. It's about right and wrong. Dobson is using quack psycholgy to justify a religious edict. There are no sacred cows here. James Dobson is certainly not above reproach. He puts himself up as the Christian voice of reason and certainly invites criticism with the things that he says every week.
My points were that comments about throwing people in the looney bin are unsubstantiated and nowhere even close to mentioned in the origional article. Also, while people are criticizing Dr. Dobson for his views using terms like "nutcase", "fightin' fundies", and "whipping boy" because they don't agree with his views uses him as a "whipping boy". Thus those who are doing that kind of criticizing are doing exacly what they are criticising him about.
Don't know if that clears it up or not.
Congrats Dave on commenting on a 2.5 month old post. Way to stay up on current events.
Quoting Paul Harvey won't get you on my good side. Here's one of his latest quotes: "Once upon a time, we elbowed our way onto and into this continent by giving small pox infected blankets to native Americans. Yes, that was biological warfare. And we used every other weapon we could get our hands on to grab this land from whomever. And we grew prosperous. And, yes, we greased the skids with the sweat of slaves." If that's your hero, you have problems.
... a country founded on Christian principles -- not true. Our founding fathers were deists, if anything. Jefferson was outright hostile to Christianity. The Right continues to perpetuate the myth.
And how dare you preach to me about what patriotism is. You have no clue. My father and brother both served. Don't pretend to know what every serviceman is thinking.
Merry Christmas….oops it’s Happy Holidays. -- they had this Oktoberfest thing yesterday because they don’t celebrate Halloween. Halloween is not a Christian holiday. Churches were the first ones that were offended by the meaning of Halloween and changed to "Fall Festival" or "Harvest Festival". Schools changed because Christian parents complained.
Tattoos and competition? You're just ranting all over the place. Is there some place on my blog where I complained about tattoos and competition?
Nation of fairies -- Wow, a bigot too. You're a piece of work.
And don't respond to some other blogger on my blog. Get a clue. My knowledge of Iraq comes from people who were there.
